Audition Workshops — Group Classes

Audition 101 Workshop
Includes the following concepts (customizable to age, group size, class length and program goals)

  • Audition Etiquette + ‘What to Expect’/’Expect the Unexpected’

  • What Should I Sing? — Learn how to choose and present short snippets of material

  • Prepare your material AND your mind - How to get rid of the pre-audition jitters

  • Mock auditions — gain experience and confidence in various audition situations. Work either 1 minute monologues or 16/32 bar song cuts. OR Q&A, depending on time.

Build Your Book Series or The Mock Audition Series
Multi-Class series (at least 3 weeks) to explore new and current audition material. Appropriate for Older Students or Conservatory students.

  • Both Series: ‘Audition’ for a new show or genre each week. Each student performs every class and receives individual feedback

  • Build Your Book: What makes us unique? How to choose material that is both audition appropriate and highlights your individuality. Song suggestions and character feedback.

  • The Mock Audition Series: Alternate through both standard auditions (present your own material) and callback situations (prepare material from the show).

  • Optional add on to either: the virtual audition. Students record audition material ahead of class to be discussed among peers - what are the challenges of on-camera auditions? What techniques can we use to still feel ‘in the moment’? Appropriate for more advanced students who are ready for self-reflection and self-critique.

Audition with Confidence - How to Eliminate Fear and Fall in Love with Auditioning
Appropriate for older, semi-professional and professional level students with audition experience. A weekly series to bring confidence into the audition room by practicing Preparation, Mindset and Flexibility.

  • How to beat the audition nerves - what does it mean to be truly ‘prepared’? How can we adjust our mindset and be ready for anything that comes our way?

  • Weekly classes where students bring in various audition pieces or prompts such as:

    • ‘Just Sing - The Guilty Pleasure Audition’: What song do you LOVE to sing? Delve into what connects and grounds you to this piece. How can we remember this safe/joyous feeling?

    • ‘They’re just SO GOOD’: Bring to class a video example of a performer you admire/connect with/enjoy watching. Discuss the qualities this performer has on stage. How does their performance differ from yours? How might they have prepared/what is their ‘invisible technique’

    • The ‘What if?’ Day: “Distraction Audition” - how do we handle unexpected audition curveballs in the moment? (interruptions, unweildy accompanists, auditioning while everyone is eating a noisy lunch)

    • Prepare what you would sing on a ‘Sick Day’. The Do’s and Don’t’s of when we’re not at our best.

    • The Last Minute Audition: students receive audition material with 3 days notice. How do we present our best self when there’s a time crunch.

Scene - Into - Song
